Has music ever resonated with you in a deeper, maybe even unexplainable way? The Lighthouse and Compass came into conception when Katie and Travis began writing and singing together with no other aspirations other than to create music from the deep reaches of the heart. The name and subsequently the live group was born when they began to see their early attempts at songs reaching the hearts of others and serving as a conduit to connect them. They began in the Summer of 2018 their journey of navigating into homes, devices, and venues with a hope to create places, moments, and memories of connection.
The name comes from Psalm 43:3-4, parenthesis added to denote the items we chose to represent His light and His truth...
“O send out Your light (the lighthouse) and Your truth (the compass), let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your dwelling places. 4 Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And upon the lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God.”
Our desire is to continue writing songs that delve deeper than the surface and maybe be a soundtrack to the impactful moments in someone else’s life. Whether it’s wrestling, worshipping, wondering, or wandering, there’s a song to be sung about the stories worth the telling. We’d love to be a duo that captures those into songs, both in concert and in the studio.
